Defenseless Defense

I'm a Chargers Fan, but where the hell are the guys who played the last preseason game. If they want to be successful they have to get those players on the field.

Bolts Buck Colts In OT; Next Stop - The Steel City

Just like in any Wild "Card" game, you don't want to become complacent and let the competition define your future; it's all up to you. The Chargers did just that by taking things into their own hands in OT against the Colts in the AFC Wild Card Game at the "Q" Saturday night.

In one of the most exciting and explosive performances games of the 2008 Season, the Chargers defeated the Indianapolis Colts 23-17 to move on to the Divisional Championship in Pittsburgh next week. Darren Sproles’ 328 all-purpose yards were the second most in team history in a postseason game. (Keith Lincoln had 337 in the 1963 AFL Championship Game). It was the third-most all-purpose yards in a playoff game in NFL history.

The Chargers defense held league MVP Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts to 17 points. “That’s the best player in the league,” cornerback Quentin Jammer said. “I’ve been saying it all week. We went out as a defense and dominated a great offense, it wasn’t like it was easy. We played great against a great offense with the best player in the league calling the shots.”

The Chargers defense allowed the Colts to convert on only 6-of-15 third down attempts and only gave up 64 total rushing yards. While they only sacked Manning once, they pressured him throughout the night and kept him on the move.

“To be able to win a game against those guys, we have so much respect for them,” defensive end Luis Castillo said. “They’ve been absolutely the best. Unfortunately enough for them, we’ve played them difficult over the last few years. To be able to come out here today and make Peyton move around, get him a little bit uncomfortable, get him out of his zone a little bit, which is so hard to do.”

Although it looked like the Chargers had a chance to win the game at the end of the 4th quarter, they were forced to punt on their last possession which sent the game into overtime tied 17-17. The Bolts won the coin toss. Aided by two defensive holding calls and a facemask infraction on the Colts, the Chargers drove all the way to Indy’s 22 yard line, setting up Sproles’ finishing touch. His 22-yard touchdown run capped an emotional comeback that saw the Chargers erase a fourth-quarter deficit and pull out a 23-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

The Pittsburgh Steelers aren't impressed. Most think that playing the Chargers next week in the 20 degree cold at Heinz Field will just be a minor formality for a rematch against the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC Championship on January 18, 2009. The Chargers are being labeled "a relatively weak opponent" that aren't even as strong as their mere 8-8 record might suggest. LT is hurt. Sproles is "over worked". The Pittsburgh media has already called the game. They are just waiting for everyone else to catch up with them.

Aren't these kinds of match ups why we love sports so much ? If stats goverened the outcome of future games, why would they even play ? Just think of all of the records that have been shattered in similar circumstances. This is what makes the adrenaline flow. This is why we love the game. What statistically shouldn't be possible IS possible. Where does it come from ? The heart of the athlete. The intangible factor that makes all dreams possible. Teams truly bonding together, achieving more collectively than any of them could have imagined individually.

Will the Chargers pull this one off ? LT is hurt.... but it has been Sproles that has proved he is an every down back. Sproles is hungry. Sproles has something to prove. Chargers QB Phillip Rivers is red hot. The San Diego defense has been making the plays. On paper Pittsburgh should win.... but maybe.... just maybe.... the Chargers may show that San Diego wants it more.

We will see on Sunday ! Gametime is 4:45 ET/ 1:45 PT.

GO BOLTS !!!

Chargers Stun Broncos 52-10 - Bolts are PLAYOFF BOUND

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Clause.  In a year where so many things have happened in the "real world" that we never thought possible, Charger Fans are given something to lift their spirits and make them believe that Santa may indeed exist.

It's hard to believe that San Diego with an 8-8 record has a playoff berth and teams like New England who are 11-5 are not. How can this be possible ? The Chargers put up the wins against the right teams, giving them a 5-1 record in the division, while having a miserable 1-7 outside the division.  It only goes to show you it's how you play the game that matters. Going into the playoffs 8-8 is so rare, (not to mention a 4-8 start)  that the last time it was done was 23 years ago in 1985.

Charger fans still can't believe it. The team lost 4 games within the last few seconds. They know it was possible for their team to be 12-4, but were sure that the 8-8 was the kiss of death and the miserable end to yet another disappointing season....Not so fast !!!

LT had 3 TD's and 96 rushing yards.  Sproles recorded the first "non-LT rushing touchdown" of the 2008 season. Sproles proved he can be an "any-down" back and with 114 yards rushing, has been as solid as they come for the Chargers during the 2008 regular season.

Now the ultimate equalizer - POST SEASON.  San Diego may have had a miraculous comeback, but they now have to show that this wasn't a fluke. The Chargers play host to Indianapolis in an AFC wild-card round game Saturday night at 8 ET/ 5 PT. You can be sure that San Diego Chargers fans will be out in full force to watch the Chargers avenge their last second loss to the Colts suffered earlier this season seen by everyone thanks to NBC and "Football Night In America".

As with everything else these days, the indicators that we have been following for years to predict these games seem to add no value. What is a sportsfan to do ?  BELIEVE.  Why not ?
We weren't supposed to be here anyway. Let the magic last a bit longer.  It's not the worst way to start 2009....GO BOLTS !!!

CHARGERS LOSE TO BILLS 23-14 ON 3 KEY TURNOVERS

San Diego started off their road trip falling flat after 3 costly turnovers determined the outcome of their game against Buffalo 23-14.
Power outtages didn't look like they were going to phase the Chargers...but the further into the game they got, the sloppier their play. Buffalo capitalized on all three turnovers.
What happened ? The Chargers looked great last weekend. The Bills were the team with all the injuries this week. Does Norv Turner need to start worrying about looking for a new job ?

THE CHARGERS WIN ! THE CHARGERS WIN!

Hey Charger Fans ! The Bolts got it together for the big game on Monday Night Football to beat the NY Jets 48-29.

For those of you who haven't experienced MNF, it is electric, in your face and usually produces performances that can't even be scripted. Not only is it memorable on the field, but the fans usually make the experience even more memorable.

First, does NY sell other jersey's than Farves ? It was like there was a sale on Farve jerseys or something. I dont think I saw another Jet jersey except maybe Namath. That being said, the NY fans weren't very happy for most of the game. What really seemed to get under their skin was having their trademark chant "modified". For those of you not familiar with it, the chant is J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets. Monday night it was more like. J-E-T-S Suck Suck Suck !"

It was so good to finally be on the winning side of the scoreboard. Who would have thought that we would go to week 3 before LT would get his first (and second) TD's of the year. Is everyone happy that CB Antonio Cromartie is on our side ? He gets his self to the right place at the right time and has proved to be invaluable.

Then there was the hit on Luis Castello. Watching it was kind of like watching the Joe Theisman re-runs. Can you say OUCH ? Most fans couldn't even watch it on instant replay.

Speaking of things fans wouldn't want to watch, the Chargers are off to the black hole, also known as the home of the Oakland Raiders. Let's keep this win streak going !!! OK - so one is technically not a streak....so we need to make it one.

GO BOLT S !!!!

lightning will strike

PHILLIP RIVERS HAS ARRIVED AS A BIG NAME QB HE HAS SHOWN US AGAINST DENVER AND AGAINST THE JETS THAT IF HE GETS MAN COVERAGE ON THE OUTSIDE WITH A SAFETY CHEATING UP (ON 3RD AND SHORT SITUATIONS) THAT HE WILL AUDIBLE AND LIGHT IT UP DEEP WITHOUT FEAR AND IN THE TWO PREVIOUS GAMES HE HAS SHOWN HIS ACCURACY IS MONEY!! I AM IMPRESSED WITH HIS READS THUS FAR ITS HIS AGGRESSIVENESS THAT BALANCES OUT NORV TURNERS CONSERVATIVENESS AND KEEPS DEFENSES GUESSING. THE RAIDERS WHOM I FEEL SORRY FOR BECAUSE OF THEIR OWNER (WHO ACTS LIKE MARJ SCHOTT) WILL GET POUNDED ON SUNDAY BECAUSE THEIR COACH WILL TRY TO PRESS TO SAVE HIS JOB AND RIVERS WILL WAIT LIKE A LION IN WEEDS THEN LIGHTNING WILL STRIKE!!!!!!

Poor Chargers

The Sand Diego Chargers has both the best offense and worst defense in the NFL. Without Merriman
we won't be seeing any sacks just Favre making the JETS look like they are majestic swans. The
winner of this game Monday night will be the JETS by 1 touchdown---28-35. And I am Rivers fan...aint he playing good??
